CLASS TIME –10:00 to 11:00 (1 HR.)

 

D1 – FILMS OF THE GOLDEN AGE – GEORGE LIPTAK worked in Hollywood (1001 North LaBrea) during the last days of the Golden Age of the film world. Seven major studios dominated the industry selling 45 to 90 million tickets weekly to a nation of 130 million people.  Of necessity they were run on a “factory” model that placed each employee in the position for which they were best suited. The class will focus on what each studio specialized and the   thespians plus their associates (directors, producers) that delivered the filmed goods to thousands of picture palaces each week.

 

D2 – BUILDING A NATION – THE FOUNDING FATHERS –  JACK FERGUSON, Historian and Dramatist will return to SEL, having completed the life of George Washington. He will now concentrate on John Adams - A Man of Principles; Thomas Jefferson – President; James Madison – President; James Monroe – President; John Quincy Adams – The Travels of a Young Man and President;  Andrew Jackson – President.  He will discuss the State of Georgia, the American Revolution and finish with Homeland Security.

 

CLASS TIME – 10:00 to 12:00 (2 HRS.)

 

D3 - CONVERSATIONAL SPANISH – Class is open to students who have a working knowledge of Spanish.

D4 – CHURCHILL & ZIONISM – Unveils the story of the exceptionally strong belief in support of the Zionism world movement provided by Winston Churchill.  He played a major role that ultimately led to the creation of the state of Israel.  Join GARY GARRISON as he explores the fascinating stories of Churchill’s unwavering views in fulfillment of the Balfour Declaration and with his continued support for the Zionists.

 

D5 - PREACHING, SCREECHING AND BESEECHING - THE GREAT REVIVAL – FATHER PHILLIP SCOTT, PhD in Southern History will discuss the years 1800 to 1805 which saw the establishment of evangelical Christianity as the faith of the frontier.  The years that followed witnessed revivalism as it spread to the entire nation.  Come and see what made this period unique in American History.

 

55 ALIVE DRIVING CLASS

 

D6 – AARP- 55-ALIVE . Classes are held on Wednesday and Thursday, September 24 and 25

 – 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Participants must attend on BOTH DAYS for completion certificate.  A materials fee of $10 payable to AARP is due on the 1st day of class.  This program is offered as a community service; there is no SEL registration fee.  Check the registration form.
